Getting started

Help

Start with Ask Authority for a research question, or Browse to inspect a known order or instrument. Concept Notes introduce legal topics. Browsing is public; research and saved material require sign-in when accounts are enabled.

Collection, lens and length

Auto / Ask Authority

Chooses CCI, NCLAT or both. General propositions normally benefit from both; expressly limit the collection when you want one authority's treatment.

CCI / NCLAT / Both

Choose Commission material, appellate material, or combined research yourself. Selecting both does not guarantee that both contain usable evidence.

Proposition Finder

Focuses on the legal rule or distinction behind your question.

Case Finder

Prioritizes case-focused research and deeper passages relevant to the requested issue or outcome.

ADHD mode

A wide-angle lens exploring related issues, alternative arguments and connections. This product name is not medical advice. Exploration remains constrained by sources.

Concise / Detailed

Concise gives a focused explanation; Detailed aims for a fuller research note. These control length and depth, separately from the research lens. Evidence limits can produce a shorter or partial answer.

Case workflows and comparison

From a CCI or NCLAT profile, ask about the case, prepare a brief, extract a legal test, or examine remedies and penalties. Guided workflows prepare a question for you to review before submission. Selected-case research is restricted to the selected order, not a promise of the whole litigation history.

Add two to four orders to comparison, including CCI and NCLAT together. Check your selection before running. A comparison does not establish that cases are linked on appeal; only verified visible appellate links represent the site's recorded relationship.

Read the evidence

Citation buttons open the evidence panel. The authorities section links to the records; “Open PDF in new tab” remains available. A verified citation means its quotation and supported location passed the available checks—not that every interpretation, procedural classification or inference is correct.

If a citation is unavailable, inspect the source yourself. Do not infer an outcome from party submissions or mistake an investigation-stage view for a final finding. Legislation is browsable in its reader; not every listed instrument necessarily contributes to every generated answer.

Continue, save and export

Follow-ups continue from a usable answer and may retrieve additional evidence. They are new research work, not free edits. Save an answer to return to it, add notes and labels, or download an available answer as Markdown. Exported copies remain under your control after removal from the site.

Credits, waiting and retry

Ordinary accounts receive ten research credits daily, resetting at midnight India Standard Time without rollover. Credits represent workload, not a fixed number of questions or a dollar price. Credits are reserved before execution and reconciled afterward. Pending runs can reduce your available balance. Owner use is unlimited but measured.

Progress reports stages, not a guaranteed countdown. A retrieved-authorities-only result is not a completed answer. Inspect retained evidence and use the offered retry action where available; a retry may consume credits. Restart recovery does not automatically make another paid model call.

Questions are limited to 4,000 characters. Ask focused questions and use follow-ups. Browse search operates on its available search fields; do not assume it finds every occurrence inside every PDF.

About Authority Desk

Authority Desk is a source-grounded Indian competition-law research workspace by Sidhanth M K Majoo. It brings Commission orders, appellate records, legislation, concept notes and AI-assisted research into one working desk.

The aim is practical: move from a question to a proposition, from the proposition to authority, and from the authority to the source you can inspect. Case workflows, comparison, follow-ups and saved research support that journey.

Coverage, without false certainty

Coverage follows the active collections, not a single guaranteed cut-off date. The older snapshot dates previously displayed here no longer describe the refreshed collections. Check each record's order date, document and source. A recent record does not establish that all earlier orders are present, searchable or correctly extracted.

This is not an exhaustive combined CCI, NCLAT, Supreme Court and High Court database. Missing documents, scanned pages, extraction limitations and incomplete procedural histories can affect results. Only verified visible appellate links are shown; an absent link does not mean no appeal exists.

Competition News is archived for launch. I was not happy with its quality, so I withdrew it while it is improved. I hope to bring it back; there is no promised return date.

Sidhanth M K Majoo

Sidhanth is a law graduate from National Law University Odisha with interests in competition law, disputes, arbitration and legal technology.

He built competitionlaw.in as a practical space for improving legal research workflows, source visibility, writing and retrieval over time. Authority Desk reflects that interest in making rigorous research easier to navigate without hiding the record behind an answer.

Know what your research shares.

This notice describes the current V2 workspace operated by Sidhanth M K Majoo. Public hosting arrangements will be reviewed before launch. Avoid unnecessary personal data, privileged communications and confidential client facts unless you have authority to share them with the services involved.

Information used

Google sign-in supplies an account identifier, email and profile information such as your name. Authority Desk uses a signed session to recognize your account, enforce access and manage credits. Google authenticates you; Authority Desk does not ask for your Google password.

Research processing uses your question, relevant follow-up context, selected sources and retrieved excerpts. Answers, saved research, notes and labels, and operational records such as timestamps, usage and errors may be stored. Skin preferences are stored in your browser.

External services

Questions, relevant context and supporting excerpts are sent to the OpenAI model service to route or generate research. Google handles sign-in. The application server stores and processes account and research data. Local hosting does not mean a question stays on your computer.

Provider processing and retention depend on the configured service and account settings. This notice does not promise zero provider retention, a particular storage country or that all copies remain local. Do not treat the site as a confidential document vault.

Access, retention and deletion

Saved research is scoped to its owner. Routine administration uses operational information; explicit inspection of research content is audited. Authorized maintenance and support may require access. No online system can promise absolute confidentiality or availability.

The intended lifecycle is 30 days for unsaved runs, and retention of saved research until removal/archive followed by a 30-day recovery window. Automated cleanup does not yet guarantee removal of every intermediate artifact or backup. Minimal audit records are retained indefinitely under the current policy. “Remove from Saved” is not immediate permanent deletion of every copy.

Contact 21bba046@nluo.ac.in to request access, correction, account closure or deletion, or to raise a privacy concern. Identify your account and request without sending passwords or unnecessary sensitive details. Identity may need verification. Any limits on deletion, including provider copies, audit records and backups, should be explained in the response.

Session storage supports sign-in; browser storage supports appearance preferences. This notice is not a certification of compliance with data-protection law. Hosting, provider arrangements and retention must be reviewed as the product changes.

Use Authority Desk as a starting point. It does not assure legal correctness, completeness, currentness or suitability for a particular matter. Using the site does not create a lawyer–client relationship with its builder.

Before professional reliance, read the source and verify the governing text, procedural stage, majority reasoning, subsequent treatment and applicable law. AI analysis can omit authorities or misinterpret a passage even when its quotation is genuine. Concept Notes are explanations, not the source of law.

Do not misuse accounts, bypass access or workload limits, interfere with the service, or submit information you are not entitled to share. Availability and credit settings may change; credits are a workload allowance, not stored money or a guarantee of a result.

Source documents and publisher material may carry their own rights and conditions. Access through this site grants no additional reproduction or redistribution rights. Check the original source before reuse.

Report errors with the question or page address, affected passage and relevant source to 21bba046@nluo.ac.in. Avoid confidential information in correction reports. These limitations do not purport to remove rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Behind the desk

Built around inspectable evidence.

Authority Desk combines a lightweight Python application with server-rendered pages and focused browser enhancements. Starlette and Jinja support a responsive research interface without a heavyweight client application.

A retrieval-assisted research layer brings together structured legal records and relevant document passages. Language models organize and explain material; separate citation checks connect quotations to inspectable sources. Corpus-specific adapters preserve the distinction between Commission orders, appellate records and legislation.

Account-scoped research, bounded execution, recorded outcomes and source-linked readers support a deliberate workflow: ask, inspect, compare and verify. Internal ranking rules, prompts and operational configuration are not part of this public overview.
